Stefano Cusin insists he is not looking to replace Joel Masutha at Black Leopards

Leopards have roped in a vastly experienced Italian tactician to head up the technical department of the club, following their uncertain promotion to the Absa Premiership.

Cusin was unveiled by the club on Wednesday, along with several new players, as they gear up for their first topflight campaign in five years, after head coach Masuthu successfully led them through the promotion play-offs last month.

However, their promotion has been cast in doubt following Monday's South Gauteng High Court ruling on the ongoing Ajax Cape Town/Tendai Ndoro matter.

Despite the uncertainty, however, Lidoda Duvha have gone ahead with preparations, with their appointment of the former Wolverhampton Wanderers assistant coach as technical director.

snl24.com/kickoff previously reported that a source was under the impression that the club were set to use the new TD as a shadow appointment to replace the coach, pending any sort of slip-up.

But the 49-year-old tactician, who has previously worked extensively in the Persian Gulf as well as briefly in Congo and Libya, has since denied that he is here to take over from Masutha.

“Look, I’ve just arrived and they gave me a list of the things I have to do. I have to oversee the youth players, build the academy from age 12-16, so I have too much job to do,” stressed Cusin following his unveiling.

“Of course, in this moment the first task is the first team because they will be starting the league soon, and I have to work hard to support the coach and the fitness coach, and to give my experience – that’s it.”
