Thabo Nthethe explains why he joined Chippa United from Mamelodi Sundowns

Nthethe said goodbye to Sundowns after a successful four years with the club, winning the CAF Champions League, the Absa Premiership on three occasions, as well as the continent’s Super Cup, Telkom Knockout and Nedbank Cup.

In his last season with the Brazilians, the 33-year-old Nthethe played just two matches in all competitions, as coach Pitso Mosimane preferred the likes of Motjeka Madisha, Ricardo Nascimento and Soumahoro Bangaly in central defence.

“I am excited, knowing that it’s a new challenge for me. I am looking forward to it, but I know that I still need to work very hard to get game-time. I have been waiting for game-time and I am ready for the challenge,” Nthethe tells snl24.com/kickoff.

“I like the style of play at Chippa. They like to play from the back and I think I am comfortable with that. I have been following their performances, so being there will boost me. I was talking to other teams, but I decided to go with Chippa.

“I was happy to hear that the coach is back at the team. He did well when he was at Chippa last time. They were playing good football, not panicking and playing from the back.”
