Witbank Spurs sign Zimbabwean rising star Tanaka Chinyahara

The 23-year-old Bidvest Wits development product, who is currently regarded as one of the best up and coming talents in his country of birth, has never played in Zimbabwe, but did play his football in Denmark for Jammebugt FC.

According to his representative Michael Ngobeni, Chinyahara has previously tried his luck at Absa Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns without success.

"Tanaka Chinyahara signed two years and a half with Witbank Spurs," Ngobeni tells snl24.com/kickoff.

"New kid on the block maestro midfielder, watch this space. He is a free player [free agent]. Remember he was here for trials before with Chiefs and Sundowns. Never played in Zim, only in Denmark."

Siyavutha CEO Freddy Mapulane confirmed to this website they have signed the player. "Oh ja that's a star for the future," Mapulane said.

"His agent sent him to us, he sent us his footage while he was still playing in Denmark. So when his contract finished over there we invited him, and now he is here training with the team. So now our aim is to survive the relegation and plan for next season. So Mr Mashaba [coach Shakes] now is planning for next season, so he said 'that's my star player for next season'.

"We will register him now, once he gets his work permit he will play in the remaining games. He likes him in the defensive position but he can also play attacking midfielder, and remember we've just signed [Lunathi] Mdatyulwa who is an attacking midfielder.

"So I think he will be more suited defensively, but anywhere you put him... he is a utility player, he is very good. This is one of the best that we've ever signed as Witbank Spurs."

Mapulane also confirmed that former Bafana Bafana striker Bongani 'Drogba' Ndulula started training with the club this week.

"We are assessing Ndulula at the moment. He joined us this week Monday so by tomorrow the coach will give us feedback, but he still knows where the goalposts are, he really bangs the goals in," Mapulane revealed.

"Okay the age does count here and there but we need a target man, even if he can just stand there inside the 18-area and just take the ball and put it in the back of the net it's fine, that's what Ndulula will be doing at the moment."
