Uganda move ahead of Bafana with first win

Uganda 2-0 Congo

Uganda bagged their first win in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers after defeating Congo 2-0 in Kampala on Monday night.

After a spirited performance against Bafana Bafana on Friday, the Cranes were desperate to go one better and did as Aziz Kayondo got on strike in the first period of the contest.

The points were made safe five minutes before the end when Jude Ssemugabi rattled the back of the net and effectively put matters beyond doubt.

The win takes the Cranes top of Group K with four points from their opening two games.

Niger 1-1 Ghana

Four-time champions Ghana picked up their first point in the qualifying stages after a 1-1 stalemate with Niger in Group F.

The Black Stars were stunned in the opening weekend of the qualifiers by Angola on home soil – leading to fast protests from their supporters.

However, this time around a finish just before the end of the first half from Alidu Seidu brought a sense of authority though the host struck nine minutes before time through Oumar Sako.

Equatorial Guinea 2-2 Togo

Equatorial Guinea and Togo shared the spoils in an entertaining 2-2 draw in Group E qualifying encounter out, with both winless after two matches played.

Luis Nlavo had the home team off the mark in the earlier exchanges, but Roger Aholou levelled matters right on the stroke of halftime to leave the match on a knife-edge.

The host, though, regained momentum a little inside the second half through Jannick Buyla, but Togo rescued a point at the death when Laba Kodjo Fo-Doh bagged the net.

Madagascar 1-1 Comoros

Madagascar and Comoros remained winless in the qualifiers in Group A after battling out a 1-1 draw in a battle of the island nations in Antananarivo.

The host had the perfect start in the opening ten minutes with Carolus on strike, but the counterparts bounced back later in the half through Youssouf M'Changama and saw the points shared.

Burundi 0-1 Senegal

Senegal finally got off the mark in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers and overcame Burundi 1-0 in a Group L clash on Monday.

The Teranga Lions were denied maximum points in the opener last Friday against Burkina Faso after playing to a 1-1 draw.

Crystal Palace winger Ismaila Sarr came good for the 2020 champions when he netted a penalty in the closing stages of the second half and secured the maximum points.
