AFCON: Every team that has qualified so far

With Bafana Bafana having qualified for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations on Tuesday, here's a look at every team that has booked their spot in the competition so far.

Seven nations have already sealed a place in the tournament's group stage, with hosts Ivory Coast earning automatic qualification.

The Elephants are among the 48 teams competing in the qualifiers, and currently sit top of Group H with 10 points after three wins and one draw.

Morocco, meanwhile, were one of the first teams to seal qualification without having kicked a ball in the latest round of qualifiers. The North African giants are currently top of Group K with six points after victories over South Africa and Liberia in June 2022.

Zimbabwe, who were supposed to be the fourth side in that group, were eliminated from qualification due to a FIFA ban on their football federation due to government interference, thus automatically "occupying" fourth spot in the group with zero points.

On Tuesday evening, it was confirmed that Bafana Bafana will be joining the Atlas Lions in Ivory Coast in January next year after they overcame Liberia in a 2-1 win.

Reigning champions Senegal have also sealed qualification after a narrow 1-0 win over Mozambique in Group L as they maintained a perfect record of four wins from four games.

The Lions of Teranga will be hoping to become the first country to win AFCON on consecutive occasions since Egypt did a three-peat in 2006, 2008, and 2010.

There are 17 spots still up for grabs in the next round of qualifiers in June and September, before the showpiece kicks off in January 2024.

Qualified teams so far:

Ivory Coast (qualified as hosts)

Burkina Faso

Algeria

Tunisia

Morocco

South Africa

Senegal
