Congo Coach opens up on delay before Bafana clash

Congo-Brazzaville head coach Isaac N'Gata has opened up on their reported troubles and delay before arrival in South Africa after a 5-0 defeat in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

Congo were 3-0 down at halftime after a brace by Teboho Mokoena and another goal by Bathusi Aubaas.

The Leopards were not given time to regroup, as early in the second stanza Lyle Foster made it 4-0 for Bafana and Iqraam Rayners rounded off the thrashing with the fifth goal 12 minutes before time.

Congo appeared to be playing an open game and N'Gata says their game was to press Hugo Broos' charges high but Bafana were ultimately too good.

"We cannot feel very well after this score you know. We came here with good ambitions to press them up but they have a good team, played very well. In the first-half we were not in the game, after we tried to play, they scored again," N'Gata said on SABC Sport.

There was uncertainty on whether Congo would honour their game against Bafana, after reports emerged during the week that political instability put the match in doubt and that the latest they could arrive was exactly on matchday.

However, The Leopards eventually arrived in Gqeberha on Thursday, a day before facing Bafana.

Although he did not want to make an excuse about their poor preparations, N'Gata admitted that their goalkeeper Christoffer Mafoumbi was unfit for the game.

"We didn't have fresh games to prepare at home, we didn't have a lot of time but that's not a problem. The problem is the will, if you want to play good you can play, our goalkeeper was not fit today, that's the problem," the French coach added, who was speaking through a translator.
