Leweling, who was born in Nurnberg to a Ghanaian mother, primarily operates as a winger but is also capable of playing as a second striker, and has recorded three goals and two assists at club level since making his senior debut last year.

His apparent snub comes as a blow for Akonnor ahead of Thursday's clash against Sudan with Ghana already without the services of star midfielder Thomas Partey, who was ruled out of the encounter through injury.
