Nigeria star defends Osimhen's lack of AFCON goals

Nigeria forward Moses Simon has come to the defence of striker Victor Osimhen, who has scored just one goal at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Super Eagles advanced to the semi-finals after defeating Angola 1-0 on Friday evening thanks to Ademola Lookman's solitary strike.

Osimhen has not found the back of the net since the opening game against Equatorial Guniea that ended 1-1.

"The atmosphere is good in the team. Osimhen is thinking about winning, not just scoring," Simone said, as per Goal.

"If he gets a chance to score he will take it, but he's focused on the team's victory first."

Simon was also named Man of the Match after the win over Angola and urged the fans to keep supporting the team.

"I am really happy about the victory against Angola and I feel very happy because the win is for Nigerians. You can be a Man-of-the-Match and your team loses the game," he added.

"I really appreciate the support Nigerians have given to the Super Eagles and they should keep supporting us."
