Nwabali speaks on potentially leaving SA for Europe

Nigeria and Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has now spoken on potentially leaving South Africa for a move to Europe.

The 27-year-old played a crucial role in helping the Super Eagles reach the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, putting in some stunning displays that caught the attention of many outside the continent.

Jose Peseiro's men would end up falling short in the final, however, losing to 2-1 to hosts Ivory Coast.

The goalkeeper, though, was one of the side's standout performers in a defence that conceded just four goals through the entire tournament.

At one point, Nwabali and Nigeria kept four consecutive clean sheets, which played an important role in the side making it as far as they did in the continental showpiece.

The man who replaced Francis Uzoho as the national team's first-choice shot-stopper also saved two spot-kicks in the semi-final tie against Bafana Bafana, helping his side progress with a scoreline of a 4-2 in the penalty shootout.

His performances in the competition has not gone unnoticed by those on the continent and potentially beyond, but speaking on the possibility of leaving the DStv Premiership for a move abroad recently, Nwabali stated that he is in no hurry to leave.

"People have been sending messages like they want me to move to Europe or they want me to move to a bigger club," he told Arise News, via Soccernet.ng.

"I really appreciate that, but to be honest, one thing about me is that I always feel comfortable even if I'm in a small place; I don't like to rush."

With the rest of the season still to be played, the shot-stopper will return to South Africa where his side Chippa United's form is a strong contrast of his national side.

The Chilli Boys are 13th in the league with just one victory in their past five matches, and Nwabali will be hoping his AFCON momentum will be enough to help turn his club's fortunes around.
