Algeria's Nelson Mandela Stadium to host CHAN final

Algeria's newly-constructed 40 000-seater Baraki Stadium will bear the name of Nelson Mandela and is set to host the 2022 CAF African Nations Championship final.

The Algerian government has paid homage to former South Africa president Nelson Mandela after announcing that the newly constructed Baraki Stadium in the capital of Algiers will be renamed in his honour ahead of the 2022 CAF African Nations Championship (CHAN) competition.

This was confirmed by Algeria's Minister of Youth and Sports, Abderrazak Sebgag, who told El-Hiwar h/t DZFoot, "The national commission for the naming of stadiums has decided. Baraki's new stadium will be named after Nelson Mandela."

The new Nelson Mandela Stadium boasts an official capacity of 40,784 – a number slightly lower than the similarly named Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium in Gqeberha, South Africa – and its construction is reported to have cost around €280 million (R5.1 billion).
