Esperance coach bemoans disallowed goal in Downs draw

Esperance de Tunis coach Maher Kanzari has expressed his views on his team's disallowed goal during a goalless draw against Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the CAF Champions League quarter-finals match at the Stade Agrebi Stadium on Tuesday.

The Blood and Gold's Champions League campaign ended following a 1-0 defeat to the Brazilians on aggregate. Downs beat the Tunisian club 1-0 at the Loftus Versfeld Stadium last week in the first leg.

In the second leg match in Rades, Esperance believed they had secured a potential winning goal at home to level matters on aggregate, only for Achref Jabri's goal to be ruled offside by VAR.

In the post-match interview, Esperance coach Kanzari voiced his dissatisfaction with Senegalese referee Issa Sy for disallowing the goal scored by his Tunisian striker.

"I don't think there was any offside in Ashraf Al-Jabri's goal," Kanzari siad per
Mosaiquefm.net.

"We performed well in the first half and managed to take the lead at an important time, but the goal was disallowed at a crucial moment.

"In the last 15 minutes, the performance wasn't up to the required level.

"We tried to score more than once, and we had three or four chances that could have been enough to score."

Sundowns will play 12-time Champions League winners Al Ahly in the semi-finals. The Egyptian powerhouse defeated Sudanese Al Hilal 2-0 on aggregate.
