African giants 'consider' Pitso appointment

One of Africa's biggest clubs is now reported to be weighing up the possibility of appointing Pitso Mosimane as their next head coach.

Mosimane's last job came to an unfortunate end in June, after he failed to avoid relegation from the Saudi Pro League with Abha Club.

In January 2024, the South African tactician was hired by Abha on a short-term contract with the objective of keeping the club up in the Saudi top flight.

Ultimately, Mosimane's tenure with the Abha lasted just 15 games, with only five of those matches ending in victories.

The former Al Ahly boss has since been out of work for four months, although he has been linked with a few clubs and national teams, including a move to Kaizer Chiefs.

It is now reported that Mosimane has been shortlisted by a Moroccan club as a potential next head coach.

According to WinWin.com, reigning Moroccan champions Raja Athletic Club are considering appointing the 60-year-old.

This comes after the club sacked Bosnian coach Rusmir Cviko on 26 September, just three games into the 2024/25 Botola Pro Inwi season.

Cviko was appointed as Josef Zinnbauer's replacement in July, but defeats against RS Berkane and Ittihad Tanger in his first three league matches sealed his fate.

Raja are said to have set out a list of criteria for their next managerial appointment, which reportedly makes Mosimane a contender for the role.

It is claimed Raja's board of directors want a coach with sufficient experience in African competitions to lead the team in the CAF Champions League.

It is also said the perfect candidate would need to have worked in Morocco or for a north African club before.

Other shortlisted candidates reportedly include Lassaad Chabbi and Adel Chedli.
