African star to be punished after Olympics heartbreak?

One of Africa's biggest football stars may reportedly face punishment as a result of his actions following his side's 2024 Olympic Games heartbreak.

Morocco were knocked out at the semi-final of the Olympic tournament in Paris after suffering a 2-1 defeat to Spain on Monday, and will now have to compete for a bronze medal against Egypt on Thursday.

Spain and France, meanwhile, will go head to head in the final to determine which nation will be adorned with gold medals.

Morocco's Achraf Hakimi will be playing for a third-place finish, but may end up leaving the tournament with a sanction from the International Olympic Committee (IOC), according to Moroccan outlet Le360, per Afrik-Foot

It is claimed that after the semi-final encounter, the man who captained the African giants in France refused to face the media after the final whistle had been blown.

The 25-year-old is said to have snubbed journalists who approached him for post-match comments.

IOC regulations demand that at least one player speaks to members of the media following the conclusion of each match.

The Paris Saint-Germain star is believed to have adhered to these rules after his side's 4-0 victory over the United States in the quarter-finals, but failed to do so after the semis, with coach Tarik Sektioui taking up the responsibility.

As such, it is believed the former Real Madrid fullback could be hit with a big fine by the IOC.

Hakimi broke his silence following Morocco's loss on Tuesday, taking to social media to write: "Disappointed with yesterday's result. We will give everything to get the bronze medal. Thank you for your support. Always Morocco."
