It has been claimed that the transfer fee Barca will be paying amounts to €60 million (R1.2 billion), plus add-ons, to prise the midfielder away from the German club following negotiations that have taken place over the past couple of months.

Olmo, meanwhile, is believed to have agreed to a six-year contract that will see him stay at the Camp Nou until 2030.

It is understood that Blaugrana sporting director Deco flew out to Leipzig on Tuesday to ensure that the deal gets finalised, with both parties said to be eager to make the reunion happen.

The 26-year-old, who played in Barcelona's youth set-up until he left for Dinamo Zagreb in 2014, enjoyed a splendid EURO 2024 campaign in which he made six appearances and put in bright showings that earned him three goals and two assists to help Spain win the tournament for the fourth time in the nation's history.

Domestically, Olmo made 25 appearances across all competitions over the course of the 2023/24 season, managing to amass eight goals and five assists for Leipzig.

His playing time was limited by a knee injury he picked up early on in the campaign, though, seeing him ruled out for just over a month.

Not long after that, the attacking midfielder suffered an acromioclavicular joint dislocation that kept him sidelined for 53 days.

As such, the player will undergo what is said to be an "exhaustive" medical examination prior to signing the paperwork that will make his move to Spain official.
