African star's medical issue to signal end to career?

An African star's intense medical issue could now reportedly signal the end to his career.

After signing for Ligue 1 side LOSC Lille at the beginning of the season, Algeria international Nabil Bentaleb's time at the club may already be over, according to French outlet RMC Sport.

In fact, he could soon be forced to retire altogether.

The French club confirmed last week that the former Tottenham Hotspur star had been hospitalised due to illness.

Reports later indicated, however, that he had suffered from a cardiac arrest.

The player is said to have been participating in a five-a-side match when the incident took place.

He was then taken to Lille University Hospital to be treated.

It is understood Bentaleb then underwent a successful surgery, during which a pacemaker-defibrillator was fitted to stabilise his cardiac activity.

As a result, though, the 29-year-old's future int he is now believed to be hanging in the balance, and it is said he is considering hanging up his boots.

His medical file will reportedly be sent to the French Football Federation's medical commission, who will then make a recommendation to the midfielder as to whether or not he can keep playing.

It has been suggested, however, that the likelihood of Bentaleb's career coming to an end is "highly probable".
