Ahly star 'punished' after Pitso praise

An Al Ahly star has now reportedly landed himself in big trouble with the club after publicly praising South African tactician Pitso Mosimane.

Midfielder Mohamed "Afsha" Magdy is the cause of what has been described as a "violent crisis" that saw him being barred from attending the Red Devils' training session on Monday, according to Veto

It is claimed the side's manager Marcel Koller also prevented the player from using other club facilities such as the gym, with the player believed to be shocked that things escalated to this point.

This comes after the 28-year-old appeared on MBC Masr2's television show Al Kora, during which he made some controversial comments about how he feels he should have won the Man of the Match award for his performance against Zamalek in the final of the Egypt Cup earlier this year.

The player is also said to have claimed that former Al Ahly boss Rene Weiler was the best manager he worked under, and also praised Mosimane, who was at the club from 2020 to 2022, saying he is one the coaches he was most "comfortable psychologically" under.

"Mosimane is a great technical manager and a very good technician in football, but every coach has his players, and for him they had 14 or 15 players. There has become a difference in the level of the players. Currently, all the players are ready with Koller, and this is an advantage, but Mosimane tends towards 15 players only," Afsha said of the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns boss during the broadcast, per ahly.online.

As such, the Egyptian giants' director of football, Khaled Bibo, is believed to have stepped in, requesting that Afsha calm down and not escalate the matter further.

Reports suggest that a meeting between the two individuals was held on Wednesday before training, where the chief explained to the midfielder that a financial punishment will be imposed on him.

It has been claimed that the player has since returned to training, and is believed to have also apologised to Koller.

The former Brighton Hove Albion star was just one of a few players who have recently been slapped with off-field penalties, leading to speculation regarding the future of Bibo as Ahly's director of football.

Reports indicate that the executive faces the possibility of being removed from his position at the end of the season.
