Ahly boss 'agrees' to major Tau decision

Al Ahly boss Marcel Koller has now reportedly agreed to a major decision regarding Percy Tau's future at the club.

It had previously been suggested that the Swiss tactician would be open to the option of the South African leaving the club, provided an adequate replacement for him was found.

Now, however, the manager has decided that the player can leave the club during the current transfer window, according to Egyptian media personality Medhat Shalaby, per EParena.

It is claimed Koller was torn between letting go of either the former Mamelodi Sundowns star or Moroccan forward Reda Slim, but eventually chose the former due to a lack of offers for the latter.

It is claimed that as a result of the coach's decision on the Bafana Bafana attacker, the club will look to sign a "distinguished foreign player" to head into next season with.

Tau, meanwhile, is believed to be reluctant to leave Cairo, and is said to have insisted on staying or receiving the full value of his contract if he does leave.

Reports also suggest that the South African star's second-degree hamstring strain he sustained while on international duty in June saw him fall out of the Swiss tactician's plans and contributed to his decision to sell the player.

The former Brighton Hove Albion forward returned to action earlier this month and marked his comeback with a goal to help the side to a 2-1 victory over Modern Future, but has not featured in the Red Devils' two Egyptian Premier League matches since, being an unused substitute in both fixtures.

It is understood the 30-year-old's current situation at the Egyptian side has caused some Gulf clubs to show interest in the player.

Last week, it was suggested that an unnamed Emirati club had placed an annual salary of $2 million (R36 million) on the table in an attempt to land Tau's signature in this transfer window.
