Al Ahly 'divided' on Percy Tau's future

With much speculation surrounding Al Ahly star Percy Tau's future, new reports suggest that the club is divided on what to do with the South African forward.

The former Brighton Hove Albion attacker's contract with the Egyptians is said to be valid until the end of the 2024/25 season, and while one faction at the club wants to keep him, another feels he should be moved on, according to Egyptian news site Besraha.

The 30-year-old is believed to have attracted the interest of DStv Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs, while it has also been claimed that newly-promoted Saudi Pro League club Al Kholood have tabled an offer for the forward's services and that another Saudi team, Al Wehda, are also sniffing around the player.

Reports have also suggested that the 2023 CAF Inter-Club Men's Player of the Year would favour a return to Europe should he leave the Red Devils.

Tau, however, is not the only player with question marks surrounding his future at the 12-time CAF Champions League winners.

It is believed the side have received a "tempting" $2 million (R36 million) offer for 35-year-old goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy from an unnamed club in Saudi Arabia.

It has been suggested that some support the idea of the duo departing the Red Devils due to the financial benefit that would come with their exits.

On the other hand, others are said to want the pair to stay as they feel their experience could help Ahly when competing at both domestic and continental level.

Ahly manager Marcel Koller, meanwhile, is believed to be in favour of keeping the veteran shot-stopper, and is also said to be willing to let Tau leave provided the club replace him with a quality foreign player.
