'Al Ahly is trying to market Tau in various ways'

Al Ahly are reportedly looking to offload Percy Tau star as his future at the Egyptian club looks to be hanging in the balance.

The player's time at Al Ahly continues to be a subject of speculation, despite the South African forward scoring in the team's emphatic 6-1 CAF Champions League victory over CR Belouizdad on Sunday.

Tau came off the bench to net his first goal since September, when he scored a brace against Gor Mahia FC in a preliminary round of the same competition.

While it may have been a much-needed goal for the Bafana Bafana star, it also underscored his struggle for regular minutes under head coach Marcel Koller this season.

The 30-year-old has made 12 appearances across all competitions but has only started four of those matches.

His inconsistent inclusion in the starting line-up has raised questions about his role in the team and whether he fits into Koller's long-term plans.

Adding to the uncertainty is the fact that Tau's contract with the Egyptian giants expires at the end of the season.

With no signs of a renewal on the horizon, reports from Egypt suggest that the club is actively exploring ways to offload the former Brighton Hove Albion player.

Egyptian media figure Amir Hisham revealed on his Plus 90 programme on Al-Nahar TV that Al Ahly is working to market Tau to potential buyers.

"Percy Tau is a moody player and needs specific psychological treatment to perform at his best," Hisham stated per Sahafah24.

"There is an intention to market the player in January through various means. We are talking to agents to explore offers for him, even if he ends up leaving the club for free."
