Ahly 'make decision' on Tau's future after CAFCL triumph

With uncertainty continuing to surround Percy Tau's future at Al Ahly, the Egyptian giants have now reportedly made a new decision regarding the Bafana Bafana star.

After winning their record-extending 12th CAF Champions League title on the weekend, the Red Devils' hierarchy has taken steps to ensure that they remain competitive on all fronts, with one of those steps being to renew the contracts of some of their top stars, according to Ahly News.

It is reported that Ahly's board of directors, led by president Mahmoud El Khatib, has also decided that fresh players will be added to their roster during the upcoming transfer window.

While they may feel that reinforcements are necessary, the club's chiefs are believed to have settled on renewing the contracts of duo Mohamed Hany and Amr El Solia.

It has also been claimed that a decision has been made to extend Tau's stay in Cairo, despite his reported intention to leave them in search of another opportunity elsewhere, with the player said to want a move back to Europe and also recently being linked with a switch to DStv Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs.

The South Africa star has previously represented Belgian clubs Royale Union Saint-Gilloise, Club Brugge and RSC Anderlecht, as well as English side Brighton Hove Albion.

With his current contract understood to be set to expire in June 2025, the African giants are believed to be keen on retaining his services despite suggestions that initial contract talks were said to have dried up after a number of meetings were held.

This news comes despite the club reportedly deciding to issue the player with a fine after the CAFCL final, for the way in which he reacted to being substituted off by manager Marcel Koller.
