Ahly 'make request' to Tau over potential exit

With Percy Tau having been linked with moves to various clubs, Al Ahly have reportedly made a request to the player's camp over his potential exit.

The Egyptian giants' hierarchy, led by club president Mahmoud El Khatib, have decided to include the South African on the list of players set to leave the club in the upcoming window, but have made a specific request to the player in this regard, according to Korabia.

It is claimed the decision to sell him has largely been welcomed, and that it had been green-lighted by head coach Marcel Koller.

It was previously suggested that the Swiss coach would only let the player leave should a suitable foreign replacement be brought in.

Some in Egypt consider the former Brighton Hove Albion star to have underperformed over the course of the 2023/24 campaign, with the forward having also battled with injury, most recently suffering a second-degree hamstring strain while on international duty with South Africa.

As such, some fans are said to have demanded Tau's exit, and although some members of the club's hierarchy are believed to feel the 30-year-old's experience could be beneficial next season, others feel they could benefit financially from a potential departure.

Offers have reportedly come in from newly-promoted Saudi Pro League side Al Kholood, another Saudi club Al Wehda, and an unnamed club from the United Arab Emirates.

It has been suggested that "several" offers have been tabled for the Bafana Bafana star, but it is believed they were deemed to be "weak", ranging between $750 000 (around R13 million) to $1 million (R18 million).

Now, it is claimed that the Egyptian giants have approached Tau – whose contract is believed to expire at the end of next season – to request that he try to arrange an offer of between $2 million (R36 million) and $3 million (R54 million) with interested parties before any agreement will reached for his exit.
