Al Ahly 'make sacrifice' for Percy Tau

Reports in Egypt suggest that Al Ahly have now made a big sacrifice for Percy Tau amid the uncertainly around the player's future at the club.

The back-and-forth between Tau and Ahly looks set to continue a bit longer, with the two parties are said to be locked in negotiations with a hope of finding a solution before the start of the 2024/25 Egyptian Premier League season.

It has been widely reported that Red Devils boss Marcel Koller does not count on the South African anymore, and would like to free up some space for more foreign signings in his squad.

This has seemingly left Tau in limbo, and he could now leave the club, but the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns star reportedly wants to depart on his preferred terms.

As things stand, it understood the former Brighton Hove Albion attacker wants to be paid out the full value of the remainder of his contract, which is a huge point of contention.

It is now claimed that Ahly are now making final attempts to sever ties with Tau, who has been a reliable servant for the club and played a pivotal role in their 2022/23 CAF Champions League success.

According to Erem News, an Ahly source has lifted the lid on the stand-off between the player and club, claiming the Egyptian giants have offered a certain percentage of the value of his deal to agree to a mutual termination of his contract, although it remains to be seen if the player and his camp will take it.

"Al Ahly's management offered Percy Tau to leave in exchange for granting him 25% of the value of his contract for the next season," the source said.

"Al Ahly did this based on the desire of Marcel Koller, the team's technical director, who requested the player's departure, especially since he had only one season left on his contract.

"Percy Tau asked for time to think and study the matter with his agent.

"The most likely outcome, if the player sticks to his position, is to terminate the contract by mutual consent between the two parties."
