Head coach Marcel Koller is said to have given his approval for Tau to leave in the coming weeks, but only on the condition that Ahly sign a strong foreign winger to replace him.
Egyptian media figure Amir Hesham said on domestic television programme 90+: "The Al Ahly club management is marketing Percy Tau to play professionally in the Qatari league, and the player is close to leaving the team, especially since Koller does not mind his departure to achieve a financial return to buy new deals."
Tau joined the club in August 2021, and now has a year remaining on his contract.
