Ahly to have 'final' meeting over Tau's future after demand

Al Ahly are said to be set to hold a final meeting to decide Percy Tau's future at the club following a reported demand from the player's camp.

The South African's contract with the Egyptian giants is currently set to expire in June next year, but a new condition from the player's camp has halted the process of a potential renewal, according to WTS Kora.

Previous reports had suggested that the club's planning committee had decided to make a U-turn on extending the former Mamelodi Sundowns star's stay at the club.

This came after the Red Devils were said to have put a contract on the table that would have seen the Bafana Bafana star earn an annual salary of $1.2 million (R23 million), which would be increased by $100 000 (R1.9 million) in the first season, $150 000 (R2.8 million) in the next, and $200 000 (R3.8 million) in the final year.

It is said that Tau had initially agreed to sign that contract, but requested an increase because his agent will also receive a percentage of the renewal if terms are agreed.

This condition is believed to have been rejected by the club's committee, causing a reported breakdown in negotiations.

Per WTS Kora, there will be a meeting between the Red Devils' hierarchy and head coach Marcel Koller to make a final decision as to whether or not the Swiss tactician would like to extend the attacker's contract or sell him in the upcoming transfer window.

It is believed, however, that the manager is a great admirer of Tau, and had previously pushed for his contract renewal.

It has also been reported that Koller would be open to selling the former Brighton Hove Albion star, but only if a worthy replacement could be secured before his departure.
