Al Ahly urged to cut ties with Tau - 'He doesn't want to stay

Percy Tau's position at Al Ahly has come under heavy scrutiny following the team's goalless draw against National Bank in the Egyptian Premier League on Sunday.

The South African forward was named in Marcel Koller's starting XI but was substituted in the 71st minute after failing to make an impact.

The result added to growing frustrations, with prominent media figure Amir Hisham weighing in on Tau's contribution during a segment on Egyptian television.

Hisham did not hold back, criticising the handling of the Club of the Century's foreign players and questioning the wisdom of extending Tau's contract.

"I think that the preparation for the current season was bad, although the team won the Egyptian Super Cup and the Tri-Continental Cup at the expense of Al Ain," Hisham said, per BelBalady.

"The negatives had to be addressed. Al-Ahly officials must address the mistakes. I am also very surprised by the foreigners' file in Al Ahly."

Hisham went on to single out Tau, accusing the player of lacking commitment to the club. "Percy Tau sent a message today that he does not want to stay and only wants to get his money," he remarked.

"The mistake is on the one who suggested the idea of activating the additional year clause, and the player will not give up any dollar. His contract must be terminated and a replacement must be added.

"Tau receives large sums of money and has not provided anything noteworthy.

"Reda Salim is also far from Koller's calculations, although his start was good. These players are receiving large fees, yet they are not relied upon.

"Where is the technical benefit from these foreigners despite their large salaries? With the exception of Wissam Abu Ali, he is the only one who can make a difference."

The 30-year-old has been linked with an exit from the club since the transfer window leading into the 2024/25 campaign, with the player's contract set to expire at the end of the season.
