The 30-year-old started in both games against Gor Mahia FC in the second preliminary round of the 2024/25 CAF Champions League this month, netting a brace in the first leg against the Kenyan side.
His return to the team has somewhat eased speculation that he could leave the club before the close of the Egyptian transfer window on 30 September.
Moreover, it is now claimed that Ahly have taken a new position on the player's stay at the club.
According to former Egypt international Khaled El Ghandour, the Red Devils plan to make a decision on Tau's future just before January 2025, which is when the South Africa international will become eligible to sign a pre-contract agreement with a club of his choice.
"Al Ahly's planning committee will follow up on Percy Tau during the team's upcoming matches, and until next January," El Ghandour said on Al-Mahwar Stadium television programme.
"Al Ahly will decide on Percy Tau's position or his departure before January, according to what the player will offer the team during the next stage, and after that, the Red Castle officials will make their final decision regarding the player's future."
Essentially, it is understood that the club will decide in the coming months, based on his performances, whether or not they will extend the South African's contract beyond June 2025.
At one stage, it was believed that Tau had fallen out of manager Marcel Koller's plans, with the Swiss tactician reportedly keen on freeing up space for another foreign signing.
