'At least 12 coaches' apply for Nigeria job

At least 12 coaches have reportedly applied to become Nigeria's next manager after Jose Peseiro's departure following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Portuguese tactician parted ways with the Nigeria national team earlier this month after taking the side to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

With the hunt to replace the 63-year-old now on, coaches have put themselves forward for consideration by submitting their applications with the period to do so having closed on Tuesday, 12 March according to NaijaNews.

The NFF are said to have publicised the advert for the position, describing their ideal candidate as one who is passionate, experienced, and has a proven track record of success.

The list of applicants are believed to include ex-coach of the 2015 FIFA U17 World Cup-winning team Emmanuel Amuneke, Peseiro's assistant coach during AFCON 2023 Finidi George and former Super Eagles head coach Sunday Oliseh.

Former Nigeria coach Samson Siasia, current head coach of the United States U19 team Michael Nsien, and ex-assistant coach Samson Siasia are also said to have submitted their applications.

Reports further suggest that the person next in line to lead the national side will have the freedom to pick his own assistance in a bid to ensure that there is more harmony between members of the technical staff.
