'We'll talk to Nwabali about it, it won't happen again'

Nigeria's interim boss has vowed to address the notorious habit Chippa United goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has seemingly picked up.

The shot-stopper looks to have earned an unwanted reputation for time-wasting in matches since establishing himself as the Super Eagles' first-choice goalkeeper.

Last season, the 28-year-old received six of his 11 yellow cards for time-wasting, and he was also booked for the same reason during his national side's clash against Ivory Coast in the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

Most recently, the 'keeper was once again accused of time-wasting during the Super Eagles' goalless draw against Rwanda in a 2025 AFCON qualifier on Tuesday.

Nigeria's caretaker coach Augustine Eguavoen was questioned about the issue during a post-match press conference, and he insisted that discussions with Nwabali will take place to try to address the problem.

"I don't encourage such, it's something we have to talk about and we all know he's one of the best goalkeepers in Africa right now," Eguavoen said, per All Nigeria Soccer

"Some officials can get irritated as well and then start to add more minutes.

"It's not a game plan. I told you before, we have come here to get three points so delaying such balls is not the best.

"It's an in-house talk, we will discuss; going forward such things will not happen."
