Al Ahly dropped points for the second straight game in the CAF Champions League following a goalless draw with CR Belouizdad on Friday evening,
Only one change for the host showed following their 1-1 draw at Young Africans last weekend, with Emam Ashour removed and Mohamed Magdy Afsha introduced.
Ahly didn't take long to get settled but enjoyed the first chance when a ball from Mohamed Hany picked out Mahmoud Kahraba who drew a save from Rais M'Bolhi.
The visitors launched a response a few minutes later and saw Leonel Wamba go charging in the box to head a floated cross from Mokhtar Belkhither wide.
Momentum continued to sway, as Mouad Hadded's header from close-range forced a defensive block before Afsha snapped a teasing chance wide at the other end.
Afsha's involvement in the contest didn't end there and grabbed possession to send Tau clear ten minutes to halftime, but the Bafana Bafana star didn't find target.
No substitutions were made ahead of the second half on either side before Adlene Guedioua launched a searching shot from way out off the mark.
The host were the closest to the breakthrough five minutes in the break when Hussein El Shahat guided a delivery from Tau onto the woodwork.
It remained evenly poised around the closing quarter of the contest, with chances albeit from various angles on either side going wide of the mark.
Two substitutions by the holders 20 minutes from time saw Dieng made way for Ahmed Koka before Ashour came off the bench to replace Marwan Attia.
Ahly enjoyed a fair share of chances late on through Yasser Ibrahim, Tau and Karim Fouad, but there were no goals and goalless it ended in Group D.
