His exit came after Mali failed to win their two 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers in June, when they were beaten 2-1 by Ghana before settling for a disappointing 0-0 stalemate with minnows Madagascar.
With just five points in four matches in qualifying and Mali's chances of qualification for their first-ever World Cup dwindling, the call to fire Chelle was made, leaving him shell-shocked as he found out through social media.
The 46-year-old has now confirmed that he will take legal action over his dismissal.
"In May 2022, I was appointed coach of the national team and I gave the best of myself to honour this mission," a statement by the Ivorian-born coach reads.
"Until my dismissal, I tried to do my best, despite the difficult context. I took enormous pleasure in working for the motherland. Thus, I decided to remain silent on the challenges encountered for reasons of ethics, honour and dignity.
"I would like to thank the Malian sporting public, the players of all Malian national teams and the country's authorities for their unconditional support during this great adventure.
"Although the way in which I learned of my dismissal on social networks through a press release was surprising, I remain proud of the work accomplished and the opportunity I had.
"As a professional football coach, I have to react as a professional. This is why I am forced to assert my rights through legal channels.
"I am Malian and I have always worked to not humiliate my country by disclosing my difficulties on social networks.
"I also wish my successor all the success possible and I remain a fervent supporter of the Mali national teams. I say goodbye and see you very soon. Sporting friendships. May God bless Mali."

Chelle lasted just 21 matches at the Mali helm, although his record of 13 wins, five draws, and three defeats does not make for bad reading.
