Chiefs-linked boss praises players after dominant league triumph

A manager linked with the Kaizer Chiefs job has praised his current players following a win that secured the league title in what has been a dominant campaign for the side. 

On Monday, Miguel Angel Gamondi's Young Africans beat relegation-threatened Mtibwa Sugar 3-1 to secure their third consecutive Tanzanian Premier League title.

The Argentine, who took over from Nasreddine Nabi at the beginning of this season, has recently been linked with the head coach role at DStv Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs. 

The tactician has certainly made a good impression in his debut campaign in Tanzania, having also reached the quarter-finals of the CAF Champions League, where his side were knocked out on penalties by Mamelodi Sundowns. 

After his team wrapped up the league title with three games to spare, Gamondi lauded his players for carrying out the game plan despite facing a side embroiled in a bottom-of-the-table scrap. 

"It was not an easy match as Mtibwa Sugar fought hard in both halves," the 57-year-old said after the match, per The Citizen Tanzania

"I reminded my players to stay focused, especially considering that Mtibwa Sugar is battling relegation.

"Fortunately, my players executed our game plan well."

Yanga are a domestic force to be reckoned with after winning 23 of their 27 league matches thus far this season, dropping points on just four occasions. 

The Gamondi-led side has also scored 60 goals while conceding just 13 times, and lead second-placed Azam by a considerable 11 points.
