Chiefs-linked coach makes major 'call' on his future

A coach in Africa who has been heavily linked with the vacant Kaizer Chiefs role has now reportedly made a major call on his future at his current club.

Argentine tactician Miguel Gamondi, whose contract was initially set to expire at the end of the current season, is now said to have extended his deal with Young Africans by another year, according to The Citizen Tanzania.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns boss, who took over at Yanga from Nasreddine Nabi at the beginning of the season, is believed to have received a host of offers from clubs around the continent, with Amakhosi said to have shortlisted the manager as a candidate for their hot seat.

Now, however, a source close to the Tanzanian club told the abovementioned publication that their hierarchy has agreed to extend the 57-year-old coach's stay following an impressive 2023/24 campaign.

"Gamondi has agreed to continue coaching Yanga for another year," the source was quoted as saying, per The Citizen Tanzania.

"Therefore, the issue of him leaving Yanga is now settled, and members and fans of Yanga should not worry about their coach; we will have him for the next season."

Under Gamondi's guidance, Young Africans won the 2023/24 Tanzanian Premier League campaign in convincing fashion, winning 26 of their 30 matches to secure a third consecutive league title.
