Sundowns among six teams to already secure CAF CL QF spots

Mamelodi Sundowns are among the six African titans that have already secured their spots in the quarter-finals of this season's CAF Champions League.

With one round of group-stage action still left to be played, the South African giants sit at the summit of Group A with 10 points, level with former African champions and FIFA Club World Cup finalists TP Mazembe, who have also booked their spot in the next round.

The Congolese club will be looking for another victory when they go head to head with Sundowns on matchday six, with both teams vying for a first-place finish.

Egyptian giants Al Ahly, meanwhile, are also through to the next round of the competition after winning two and drawing the other three of the five matches they have played thus far.

Joining the 11-time winners are Ivory Coast's ASEC Mimosas, who top Group B with 11 points. Les Mimos have conceded just one goal thus far, while netting seven times.

Angola's Petro de Luanda and Tanzanian side Young Africans also join the list of teams that have already qualified for the quarter-finals of the continent's premier club competition with a game in hand.

Those two sides, however, are the only confirmed quarter-finalists that are yet to taste success in the continental competition.

Al Ahly have won the CAF CL on 11 occasions, Mazembe have lifted the trophy five times, while Sundowns and Mimosas are both one-time winners of the tournament.

Only two quarter-final spots are still up for grabs, which will be contested in Group B and C on matchday six in what promises to be an extraordinary close to the group stage.

In Group B, Morocco's Wydad AC are second, level on points with Tanzanian side Simba AC. The former will be taking on ASEC Mimosas in their final group game, while the Reds of Msimbazi will face Jwaneng Galaxy, who are currently last with four points.

Meanwhile, in Group C, second place will be contested by Esperance Sportive de Tunis and Sudan's Al-Hilal S.C.
