CONFIRMED: CAFCL & CAFCC group draws completed

African giants Al Ahly, Wydad AC and Mamelodi Sundowns, among others, have now learned their respective opponents for the CAF Champions League group stage, with the group draw for the CAF Confederation Cup having taken place earlier too!

The second preliminary round for both competitions was wrapped up last weekend, with all 32 teams set to do battle in the group stage of both showpieces having been confirmed.

The draw was held in Johannesburg, with three teams from the country – Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United, and Sekhukhune United – all eagerly anticipating who they will go up against the tournaments proper.

The Brazilians are the only DStv Premiership side in this season's Champions League, while their Pretoria neighbours Matsatsantsa and Babina Noko have qualified for the Confed Cup.

With both draws now completed, it has been confirmed that defending champions Al Ahly will begin their title defence in Group D alongside Algeria's CR Belouizdad, Young Africans of Tanzania, and debutants Medeama SC from Ghana, with the latter being the first Ghanain club to reach the tournament's group stage since 2012.

Last season's runners-up Wydad AC have been placed in Group B with Simba SC, ASEC Mimosas, and Jwaneng Galaxy, who caused an upset in the previous round after eliminating Orlando Pirates.

South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns, meanwhile, are set for battle in Group A with Pyramids of Egypt, DR Congo's TP Mazembe and Nouadhibou of Mauritania.
