'Tau is Al Ahly's most important player'

Following his recent brace and return to the Bafana Bafana fold, it has now been claimed that Percy Tau is Al Ahly's most important player.

The Red Devils are preparing to take on local rivals and the reigning CAF Confederation Cup champions Zamalek in a CAF Super Cup final on Friday night.

Marcel Koller's side is coming off the back of a 6-0 aggregate victory over Kenyan outfit Gor Mahia in their CAF Champions League second preliminary round tie, during which the South Africa forward netted twice.

Speaking ahead of the clash against Zamalek, former Egyptian Premier League star Ahmed Felix tipped the forward, who has been recalled by Hugo Broos for Bafana Bafana's next set of 2025 Africa Cup of Nations after being snubbed for the previous selection, to find the back of the net once again.

"The most important Al Ahly player recently is Percy Tau and I expect him to score against Zamalek, from which Ahmed Mostafa Zizo will shine," he told Al-Watan Sport, per Misr News

"It has always been a difficult confrontation between Al Ahly and Zamalek, but with the current level, I expect Al Ahly to win over Zamalek by two goals to one.

"The match will be important and difficult for both teams, especially since everyone knows the large number of fans for Al Ahly and Zamalek, and it will have a positive impact on the winning team and a negative impact on the losing team."

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star was linked with a move away from the Egyptian giants in this transfer window, with teams from Europe, Africa as well as the Middle East all believed to have been interested in acquiring his services.

However, after his recent performances in the continental competition, speculation surrounding his future seems to have died down, with the Club of the Century said to have changed their stance on the player.

It had been suggested that the side was initially open to selling the attacker to make space for another foreigner in the side.

However, with the player being in the final of the year of his current contract, the Red Devils have reportedly decided to wait until just before January 2025 to make a decision on his future based on his performances in upcoming fixtures.
