Downs Lucky? 'Rabat should've had a clear penalty'

A referee expert claims AS FAR Rabat should have been awarded a penalty against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.

The Royal Army and Sundowns could not be separated on Saturday evening after playing to a 1-1 draw in their second CAF Champions League group stage clash at Stade Ben Ahmed El Abdi.

Iqraam Rayners got the ball rolling in the 66th minute with a superb strike in the 66th minute, before Mohamed Rabie Hrimat bagged the equaliser for the Moroccans.

Accoring to Set Info Sport, Egyptian refereeing expert Jamal Al-Ghandour felt the home side should have been awarded a penalty in the first half.

The incident took place in the 28th minute when Youssef El Fahli was seemingly brought down in the box by Aubrey Modiba and despite protest from the Rabat players, the referee decided to wave away the appeals.

"The defender did not reach the ball, and the obstruction was clear on Youssef Al-Fahli inside the penalty area," the referee expert told Set Info Sport.

"This is a correct penalty kick that was not awarded to the Royal Army. The defender did not reach or play the ball completely, and there was a clear obstruction to the attacker."

Despite leaving with a point, the Royal AM remain top of the group with four points while Sundowns are winless after two matches.
