'Thank God Tau did not leave Al Ahly'

A former Al Ahly star has shared his thoughts on Percy Tau still being at the club despite the speculation around his future, and named him among the top players on the continent!

Tau made his first club appearance since the September international break on Sunday, scoring twice to help the Red Devils beat Kenyan outfit Gor Mahia by three goals to nil.

The result will see the Egyptian outfit head into the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round tie with a considerable advantage.

The Club of the Century will also be hoping Tau will be able to maintain the form he showed in the first leg and carry it out for the entirety of the 2024/25 season, at which point the player's contract with the team will expire, as things currently stand.

The South African's performance also comes after he was heavily linked with an exit from the Cairo giants, with head coach Marcel Koller reported to have authorised his departure in order to replace him with another foreign player.

The 30-year-old had been linked with clubs in Africa and the Middle East, with the most recent reports suggesting that Turkish club Sivasspor were interested in acquiring the forward's services.

However, the player still finds himself at the North African giants, and former Ahly star Mohsen Saleh has expressed immense gratitude for that.

"Percy Tau is one of the best players in Africa, and the injury kept him out of the starting line-up, which led to him being negatively affected psychologically due to sitting on the bench for a long time," the former Ahly sporting director said.

"I am very convinced of Percy Tau and thank God he did not leave Al Ahly, and the South African player is considered the best alternative to Wessam Abou Ali in the striker position."
