With Khama Billiat having ended a 14-year chapter in the South African top flight, Lukhanyo Mtuta takes a look at the best Zimbabwean players to have played in the PSL in the modern era, including the former Kaizer Chiefs star.
Billiat
The PSL has had numerous Zimbabweans grace its stage, with many claiming numerous titles at top clubs to ensure a formidable legacy. Among those is none other than Billiat, who arrived in the country all the way back in 2010 at Ajax Cape Town, who are now Cape Town Spurs. It was during this time that the pacey winger shot to fame, and he would go on to spend three seasons with the Urban Warriors before sealing a big move to Mamelodi Sundowns. At Chloorkop, he became one part of the famous "CBD" trio that also featured Leonardo Castro and Keagan Dolly. He won seven trophies with the Brazilians, including three league titles and the CAF Champions League.

Knowledge Musona
Arguably Kaizer Chiefs' best striker since Collins Mbesuma, Musona took the league by storm in the early 2010s, winning the 2010/11 ABSA Premiership and the Golden Boot that season. He quickly endeared himself to the Khosi nation, and he was soon dubbed the "smiling assassin". According to Transfermarkt, he is the third-highest scorer in the club's history with 40 goals in 88 appearances across two spells. His stint in the PSL paved the way for his long career abroad, where he has represented clubs in Germany, Belgium, and Saudi Arabia.
Tinashe Nengomasha
A rock-solid defensive midfielder, Nengomasha spent more than a decade at Chiefs, winning two PSL league titles and several domestic cups. In the 2003/04 campaign, he won the PSL Player of the Season award, becoming only the third Zimbabwean to win the individual prize after Wilfred Mugeyi and Benjani Mwaruwari. With more than 250 appearances for the Soweto giants, he finished in playing Mzansi having also featured for Bidvest Wits and Mpumalanga Black Aces.
Onismor Bhasera
The only active player in the DStv Premiership included on this list, the veteran fullback is still featuring week in and week out for SuperSport United. He began his career in Mzansi with Tembisa Classic all the way back in 2004. His notable rise to fame would come with Jomo Cosmos, though, prompting Chiefs to snap him up in 2007. In terms of longevity, Bhasera is arguably the best Zim star ever to play in the South Africa top flight as he is now approaching 20 years of playing football in the country.
Willard Katsande
Yet another Chiefs legend and PSL cult hero, Katsande spent just one season with Ajax (Cape Town Spurs) before the Glamour Boys paid a sizeable €100 000 (R2 million) for his services in 2011, according to Transfermarkt. He would spend 10 years with the Soweto outfit, winning two league titles in the process. His aggressive tackles and no-nonsense approach made him somewhat of a fan favourite among supporters, while he also struck fear in the heart of his opponents.
