The big demand Tau is making to sign new Ahly deal revealed?

Reports suggest that South Africa star Percy Tau has made a big demand before he will agree to pen a new deal with Al Ahly.

According to Al Watan Sport, the reason for the delay in the renewal of the forward's contract in Egypt is that he is demanding a hefty $500 000 (R9.3 million) increase on his current agreement.

The Cairo giants recently competed in the inaugural African Football League, where they were knocked out by Mamelodi Sundowns, who went on to win the tournament, at the semi-final stage.

The reigning Egyptian Premier League champions are also first on the league table after winning four of their five matches so far this season, while drawing the other one.

With the Club of the Century continuing its defence of the league title, Tau has, to date, contributed with four goals in this campaign and is said to have become an integral part of Marcel Koller's squad, being described as "one of the main pillars".

The Swiss manager is believed to have requested that the club's hierarchy renew the South Africa international's contract, which is currently set to expire in June 2024.

However, the Red Devils' acting CEO, Amir Tawfik, was reportedly surprised to hear Tau's $500 000 demand when he held a meeting recently with the star's agent over a possible contract extension.

For now, Tau's focus has shifted towards international duties after he was called up to represent Bafana Bafana as they look to kick-start their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign.
