The latest from Ahly on Tau's future 'revealed'

The latest from Al Ahly on Percy Tau's future has now reportedly been revealed amid much speculation.

The 30-year-old has been linked with DStv Premiership side Kaizer Chiefs in recent weeks, while it has also been claimed the Bafana Bafana attacker has attracted interest from teams in the Gulf region.

It has also been said that Tau would favour a return to Europe should he leave the Cairo club.

However, the Red Devils, along with their president Mahmoud El Khatib, are keen to keep the South African at the club, according to 365kora, who cited sources close to the club.

Despite reports linking him with a potential move to the Soweto giants, it is further claimed that the 12-time CAF Champions League winners have not received any offers from Amakhosi for the former Brighton Hove Albion star.

As such, it is understood the Egyptian giants' hierarchy remain in talks with Tau's camp regarding a contract renewal, with his current deal believed to run until June 2025.

Last week, the club confirmed that the forward had sustained a second-degree hamstring strain during South Africa's 1-1 draw with Nigeria in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier earlier this month.

As a result, Tau missed his national side's 3-1 victory over Zimbabwe, which catapulted them to second place in Group C.

This comes after the attacker picked up an ankle injury earlier this year, which kept him out of action for almost a month.

Despite facing a number of fitness obstacles, it has still been a memorable campaign for the ex-Mamelodi Sundowns player, having helped the Red Devils to their record-extending 12th CAFCL title and an Egyptian Super Cup triumph.

The side's focus will now be directed towards the Egyptian Premier League, in which they currently occupy third place, 20 points behind leaders Pyramids FC.

While that points gap may appear significant, Ahly have seven games in hand, and Marcel Koller's charges will be hoping to bridge the gap when they take on El Dakhleya SC on Friday night.
