It is believed the player was not the one driving the vehicle and was a passenger on his way to the airport in Frankfurt to pick up some friends.

The incident happened just hours after Boniface scored the winner in Bayer Leverkusen's 2-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Fortunately, the 23-year-old did not sustain any major injuries, but he did suffer a minor injury to his hand that was treated in a nearby hospital.

It is claimed police believe that the driver lost control of the car due to fatigue and skidded from the middle lane to the right, crashing into a truck.

According to German news outlet Bild, Leverkusen have confirmed that the player is "fine" and that he is in contention to feature when the club plays against French side Brest in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday.

Boniface also posted "God is the greatest" and "God decided that it wasn't my time yet" on several stories posted to his Instagram account, including two photos and two videos that he later deleted from the platform.
