TRAGIC: 19yo Europe-based African footballer dies, cause unknown

In tragic news, a 19-year-old African footballer based in Europe was found dead alone at his home, with the cause of his sad demise unclear.

Ivorian midfielder Archange Defrignan Mondou, who represented top-flight Norwegian side HamKam, was found lifeless in his place of residence on Tuesday.

The club confirmed the player's untimely passing in a statement, saying he was discovered in his apartment, with the cause of death yet to be determined.

"It is with great sadness that we have received the news that Archange Defrignan Mondou 'Akillas' has died," the statement read.

"Our warmest thoughts go out to his family and relatives."

The 19-year-old joined the side in April last year, when he moved from Ivory Coast to HamKam.

He played for their second team, scoring a goal in three appearances prior to his untimely departure.

General manager of the club Bent Svele said: "This is a very difficult day for all concerned."

Mondou was said to have been instructed to take a break from footballing action in September last year after an incident that occurred on the training pitch that required him to spend some time in hospital.

Local police, however, did not link that experience to his death, confirming that the circumstances surrounding it remain unclear.

"He was found dead, and we have requested an autopsy," they stated, per the Daily Mail."There was nothing suspicious about the death, other than the cause is unclear. He was found by others at home, and died alone."
