Trouble brewing at CAF as chief accused of misconduct?

CAF is now reportedly conducting an internal investigation after one of the association's chiefs was accused of serious misconduct.

The body for association football on the continent has launched a probe as a result of alleged serious misconduct by general secretary Veron Mosengo-Omba revealed in a report, according to The Guardian

It is claimed the report against Mosengo-Omba – who was appointed to the position in March 2021 – was submitted several months ago.

However, it is believed the details of it was revealed in an emergency meeting of the organisation's executive committee held by president Patrice Motsepe on Tuesday.

The report, compiled by CAF's head of governance, risk and compliance (GRC), is said to include allegations that the general secretary prevented some GRC members from doing their jobs.

The environment within the confederation's administration was also alleged to be one that is stressful, unethical and unprofessional, with the report thought to include repeated cases of inappropriate language in communications between departments.

While the investigation is believed to have come about due to pressure from members of the executive committee, Mosengo-Omba believes it will prove his innocence.

"My efforts to turn around and regularise this institution, which has been disrespected at times, are being sabotaged by an out-of-the-blue report containing grievances without documented proof," he wrote on his X account.

"The planned independent investigation will expose the falsity and origin of this report."
