WATCH: African player spits at referee, banned for 6 months

An African footballer has reportedly received a hefty six-month ban after spitting at a referee during a match.

In a Botola Pro match between Difaa Hassani El Jadidi and Olympique Khouribga in Morocco last Friday, Botswana international Tumisang Orebonye was caught on camera spitting at referee Omar Cheddad after receiving his marching orders.

According to L'Opinion, the Royal Moroccan Football Federation's disciplinary committee has now banned the 26-year-old from playing for six months.

This is a big blow for his club Khouribga – who are currently second-last on the league table – as they will now be without one of their best players for the rest of the season.

Orebonye has one goal in 10 league matches so far in this campaign, while he made 13 goal contributions for the team in the 2021/22 season.

There was a similar incident in February last year, when Botola Pro stars Marouane Louadni and Karim Ait Mohamed were suspended for eight and six matches, respectively, after they were judged to have spat at one another.
