'What was said about our desire to sign Percy Tau is untrue'

A club chief has denied rumours that his side were interested in signing South Africa and Al Ahly star Percy Tau.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns star has been linked with an exit from the Egyptian giants throughout the current transfer window, with interest believed to have come from various club in Africa as well as the Middle East.

It has previously been suggested that the 12-time CAF Champions League winners were prepared to allow the forward to leave the club in order to make room for a new foreign player to replace him with.

Tau – who is now in the final year of his deal with the Red Devils – was also linked with a move to second-tier Saudi side NEOM SC, with it being claimed that club officials had travelled to Egypt with the intention of trying to broker a deal for the attacker.

It was also said that the club formerly known as Al Suqor were looking to bring in the South African after their deal for Zamalek winger Ahmed Sayed, also known as Zizo, fell through.

However, NEOM's director of football, Ahmed Radhi, has now publicly denied those reports.

"What was said about Neom's desire to sign Percy Tau is absolutely untrue, just rumours from the media and press," he said, per btolat.

The club chief also opened up on their pursuit of Zizo, and stated that the transfer could still very well happen.

"The offer is definitely still on, but in the end, it is up to the Zamalek club management," Radhi added.

"The transfer period ends here on 12 September.

"Any scenario to sign a foreign deal is still valid, because there is a vacant place on the foreigners' list.

"In the end, we are trying to reach a good and logical technical addition to the team."

Tau, meanwhile, is now believed to be against departing Al Ahly unless he is paid out the remainder of his contract by the Red Devils.
