Wydad 'fighting' to stop player Mokwena wants from leaving

Wydad Casablanca are reportedly fighting to hold on to a player newly appointed manager Rulani Mokwena wants to keep at the club.

The South African tactician was unveiled as the Moroccan giants' new manager earlier this month, and one player has already departed the club since.

Wydad's previous captain Yahya Jabrane left the side to join Kuwait SC ahead of the new season.

That move is believed to have come after the three-time CAF Champion League winners attempted to negotiate terms that would get the player to stay.

Now, the Rouges et Blancs are determined to try and stop Ayoub El Amloud from also walking through the exit door, with the 30-year-old being someone Mokwena wants at the club, according to Kooora

It is reported that Wydad president Hicham Ait Menna summoned the right-back to an emergency meeting, where a final offer was tabled to the player.

The Moroccan outfit is said to be trying to convince him not to join Iranian side Persepolis FC in what would be a free transfer as his contract at Wydad expired in June.

The Persian Gulf Pro League team are also suggested to be in a favourable position to sign the defender, with the side's current manager Juan Carlos Garrido worked with him during his time at the Red Castle.

Ait Menna, meanwhile, is also said to have tried to persuade the player to stay by handing him the captaincy – a role that became vacant after Jabrane's departure – and also offering him a pay rise.

El Amloud is believed to have asked to be granted time to think over Wydad's offer, while Mokwena has reportedly insisted that the player stay put.
