Wydad 'offered' Jose Riveiro as Rulani's potential replacement

According to reports from Morocco, Wydad Athletic Club have been offered the chance to sign Orlando Pirates coach Jose Riveiro amid the exit rumours regarding Rulani Mokwena.

Mokwena's future at Wydad is now shrouded in serious uncertainty following the team's elimination from the Throne Cup this past weekend.

On Saturday, Wydad suffered a 1–0 defeat to Moghreb Tétouan, resulting in a Round of 16 exit for the Casablanca-based side.

The disappointing result has intensified the pressure on Mokwena, who now reportedly faces the risk of being sacked by the club.

According to North African outlet 365Scores.com, an intermediary has offered the Wydad management the opportunity to replace Mokwena with Riveiro at the end of the domestic campaign.

The Spaniard recently confirmed that he will leave the Buccaneers when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The report adds that Riveiro's salary is believed to be significantly lower than Mokwena's, and the Moroccan giants are currently working towards parting ways with their coach by mutual consent.

All indications from Morocco at the moment point to the Casablanca club wanting to keep the South African coach as things stand.

However, it remains unclear what the club's stance is following a lengthy board meeting on Sunday evening.
