Wydad's move to sign Ahly star 'rejected'

Egyptian giants Al Ahly have now reportedly rejected an offer for one of their players from Rulani Mokwena's Wydad Athletic Club.

The Moroccan giants submitted an offer to acquire the services of forward Reda Slim on a season-long loan, but their continental rivals are reluctant to let him go, according to Al Ahram, via Sport360.

It is claimed the three-time CAF Champions League winners presented a fee of $400 000 (about R7 million) to the Cairo-based club for the proposed loan deal.

Ahly head coach Marcel Koller is said to have told the club's hierarchy that he does not want any player to leave unless a better replacement has already been brought in.

According to Al-Masry Al-Youm, the Swiss tactician insisted that Slim stay as he feels the forward is an important part of the side's future.

The attacker is seemingly in high demand, though, as Wydad are not the only Moroccan team who have expressed an interest in the star.

Reports claim that fellow Botola Pro 1 side Raja Club Athletic have submitted a bid of $300 000 (about R5.4 million) in an attempt to land the Morocco international on loan for the upcoming season.

However, it is believed their bid was also rejected by the Egyptian Premier League giants who are currently sit second on the table, eight points behind leaders Pyramids but with four games in hand.

Wydad, meanwhile, are seemingly intent on strengthening their squad after announcing Mokwena as their new head coach last week.

The former Mamelodi Sundowns coach is said to have insisted that the club sign Young Africans playmaker Stephane Aziz Ki, with it being claimed an official bid has been submitted.
