Former Real Madrid and Manchester United star Raphael Varane has announced that he has decided to call time on his career.

"They say all good things must come to an end," he wrote in a post on Instagram.
"In my career I have taken on many challenges, rose to occasion after occasion, almost all of it was supposed to be impossible.
"Incredible emotions, special moments and memories that will last a lifetime.
"Reflecting on these moments, it is with immense pride and a feeling of fulfilment that I am announcing my retirement from the game that we all love."
The 31-year-old has called time on a career that saw him win the 2018 FIFA World Cup, four UEFA Champions League trophies, three LALIGA titles and four FIFA Club World Cups, among a host of other silverware.
The former France international went on to add that he wanted to finish his career on a high note.
"I hold myself to the highest standard, I want to go out strong, not just holding on to the game," he continued in his post on Instagram.
"It takes a big dose of courage to listen to your heart and your instinct. Desire and needs are two different things.
"I have fallen and risen a thousand times, and this time, it's the moment to stop and hang my boots up with my final game winning a trophy at Wembley."
After leaving United at the expiration of his contract at the end of the 2023/24 season, Varane joined newly-promoted Serie A side Como 1907, managed by Cesc Fabregas.
The centre-back made his debut for the club in a Coppa Italia encounter against Sampdoria last month, but was forced off the field after suffering a knee injury 23 minutes into the game.

The Frenchman also confirmed that he will stay with his current side, but in a different capacity.
"And so, a new life begins off the pitch. I will remain with Como. Just without using my boots and shin pads. Something I am looking forward to sharing more about soon."
