Explained: Why Mbappe was left out of France squad

France coach Didier Deschamps has explained why star forward Kylian Mbappe was left out of the squad for the upcoming international break.

The Real Madrid star was a surprise admission by Deschamps this week, with the two-time world champions set to take on Israel and France in the UEFA Nations League.

Deschamps reveals he is giving the Los Blancos star time to recover after only making his return as a substitute against LOSC Lille in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday night.

"I spoke with Kylian about the situation, which is still uncertain after coming on as a substitute on Wednesday. He has a match on Saturday and there are questions," Deschamps told reporters, as per Goal,

"He has a problem which is not serious but he needs treatment to recover properly. I am not here to take risks. That is why Kylian is not here."

"I have no doubt about Kylian's commitment but he was not in the best condition during the last gathering."

Mbappe will likely be back in action on Saturday evening when Real take on Villarreal at the Santiago Bernabeu.
